The Muntinlupa City government’s use of mobile wallet in distributing the national government’s “ayuda” or financial assistance to qualified beneficiaries won at the first-ever GCash Digital Excellence Awards 2021.
The Muntinlupa City government won Excellence in Digital Public Aid Distribution and Excellence in Digital Advancement for the Youth, while the Muntinlupa Science High School won the Excellence in Digital Advancement for the Youth.
GCash lauded the initiatives of the Muntinlupa City government in pioneering the use of digital financial products to improve the delivery of services for its constituents.
Last August, the city government partnered with GCash for a contactless mode of financial aid distribution to residents who were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The city government used GCash to reduce physical contact among beneficiaries and minimize the risk of further COVID-19 transmission.
Cash aid beneficiaries were urged to create their GCash accounts thru the in-app sign-in feature and register their details in a local database.
“The City Government of Muntinlupa is honored to be the recipient of the Excellence in Digital Advancement for the Youth Award and the Excellence in Digital Public Aid Distribution Award from GCash,” said Mayor Jaime Fresnedi.
He added, “This COVID-19 pandemic has opened the eyes of so many about the importance of technology to facilitate financial inclusion and good governance.”
"The City Government is looking forward to a stronger partnership with GCash as we create a more collaborative response to the challenges of the pandemic. The learnings from this successful partnership should be sustained and built upon," the mayor said.
