BI nabs overstaying American in Zamboanga

Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents have arrested an overstaying American man after relatives of his estranged Filipina wife accused him of having an affair with another woman and taking away household appliances from their house while she was abroad.

In a report to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente on Friday, Dec. 3, BI intelligence chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said 41-year-old Ryan Matthew Nelson was nabbed last Wednesday in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City by a joint team of immigration and police operatives.

“When we looked into the complaint, we found out that the alien is already an overstaying alien as he failed to extend his visa when it expired in March this year,” Manahan said.

In a complaint filed with the BI, Nelson’s sister-in-law alleged that her sibling’s foreign husband had been having an affair with a mistress while his wife is in Kuwait.

She also described her brother-in-law as a troublemaker who always gets into a fight with his drinking buddies in the neighborhood.

She said Nelson threatened to burn the house after carting away his wife's household appliances, including refrigerator, washing machine, and television set.

The American will be detained at the BI warden facility in Taguig City while undergoing deportation proceedings.
