Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives arrested two South Koreans wanted by their government for alleged swindling their compatriots of large amounts of money through telecommunications fraud.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente identified the suspects as Han Juyoung and Kim Sihun, both 26 years old.
They were were arrested in Taguig City on Wednesday, Dec. 1, in separate operations conducted by elements from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU).
Morente said the fugitives will be sent back to South Korea immediately as an order for their summary deportation order was already issued by the BI board of commissioners last year.
“As a result of the deportation order, their names are placed in our immigration blacklist, thus they are perpetually barred from re-entering the Philippines for being undesirable aliens,” Morente added.
FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy Han and Kim are also subject of warrants of arrest issued by the Interpol to all law enforcement agencies worldwide.
Sy said the duo is wanted for defrauding their victims of over 29 million won, or roughly $25,000, through voice phishing operations wherein they impersonated agents of a financial institution that offered low interest payment on loans to borrowers.
Warrants for their arrest were issued by the Seoul central district in May 2020 after they were indicted on charges of fraud.
