The northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, is affecting a huge part of Luzon, while the trough of typhoon ‘Nyatoh’ will bring scattered rain showers in eastern Visayas and Bicol region, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Dec. 2.

“Sa ngayon, northeast monsoon ang nakaaapekto dito sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon kaya inaasahan pa rin natin ang mahihinang pag-ulan diyan sa may hilagang Luzon (Right now, northeast monsoon affects a huge part of Luzon, that’s why light rains are still expected in northern Luzon),” said PAGASA Weather Specialist Raymond Ordinario in a public weather forecast.

Meanwhile, as of 3 p.m., the center of ‘Nyatoh’ was located 1,495 kilometers (km) east of northern Luzon. It has maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of 170 kph, and is moving northward at 15 kph.

“Itong extension o ‘yung trough ng nasabing bagyo ay magdudulot pa rin ng makulimlim na panahon na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pagkulog d’yan sa eastern Visayas at Bicol region (The extension or through of the said typhoon will bring cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms in eastern Visayas and Bicol region),” Ordinario added.

The state weather bureau said that the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience a generally fair weather condition aside from isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will have fair weather with chances of light to moderate rainfall. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
