W. Visayas reduces target for 3-day COVID vax drive


ILOILO CITY — From an initial target of 1.27 million people, the Department of Health (DOH) has reduced the number of people in Western Visayas for the three-day three-day nationwide vaccination drive against COVID-19.

Dr. Mary Jane Juanico, DOH-6 chief against infectious diseases, said the new target is now down to a little more than 791,000.

“That would be 263,678 persons vaccinated per day,” said Juanico in a virtual press conference.

According to Juanico, the DOH-6 is just following the new target set by the national government at 9 million people to be vaccinated across the country from the previous target of 15 million people.

Iloilo province now has the highest target for the “Bayanihan Bakunahan” drive with 270,000 persons.

It is followed by Negros Occidental province with a target of 150,000 persons.

There’s also a target of vaccinating 133,575 persons in Capiz province; 79,950 persons in Aklan province; 66,171 persons in Bacolod City; 45,000 persons in Antique province; and 28,690 persons in Guimaras province.

Iloilo City, the regional capital, is now included in DOH-6’s list with a target of 18,000 persons.
