Calado, Gampong shine as Dasma Monarchs fend off gritty MRT Negros

Mark Frederick Calado and Madzian Gampong showed the way as Dasma Monarchs fended off a gritty MRT Negros squad, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23, to notch their second straight win in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League for Men at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas on Tuesday, Nov 30.

After surrendering the second set, Calado and Gampong took their turns in punishing MRT Negros in the next two sets to finish with 13 points apiece. The two combined for 25 of the team’s 48 kills as the Monarchs also fed on the 38 errors from Negros.

Those errors doomed any hint of hope for MRT Negros to extend the game to a deciding fifth set. With the squads tied 23 apiece in Set 4, Dasma’s Ronniel Rosales scored off a block on Christian Marcelino’s attack to move to the match point.

MRT Negros tried to tie the score on the next play but Louie Pudadera made a crucial error when his tip failed to go over the net, handing the Monarchs the four-set victory.

Kris Cian Silang dictated the pace for Dasma with 19 excellent sets.

Jet Nonoy led the attack for the young Negros team with 15 markers while Christian Marcelino provided support with 14 attacks.

With the win, the Monarchs remained undefeated with a 2-0 record while Negros fell to a 1-1 win-loss card.
