Marikina LGU joins Bayanihan, Bakunahan

The Marikina City government joined Monday’s (Nov. 29) kickoff of the nationwide Bayanihan, Bakunahan national vaccination campaign which aims to inoculate nine million Filipinos until Dec. 1 to protect them from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Mayor Marcy Teodoro and Health Secretary Francisco Duque III led the ceremonial vaccination at the Marikina Sports Center.

Teodoro said he is confident that the city government will be able to reach its target of 10,000 vaccinations per day for a total of 30,000 until Dec. 1.

“Ang nakuha namin bakuna ay nasa 30,000 . Kaya ang target namin sa isang araw ay maka 10,000 na babakunahan para sa ganun ay maka-contribute ang Marikina ng mga 30,000 for the national vaccination rollout (We received 30,000 vaccine doses. This is why we have a target of 10,000 a day such that Marikina can contribute around 30,000 towards the national vaccination rollout),” the said Teodoro.

Four venues are currently being used by the city to facilitate its vaccination drive: Marikina Sports Complex for pediatric vaccination, Marikina Convention Center for booster shots, Sto. Niño Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Nino for persons with comorbidities, and Marikina Elementary School in Barangay Sta. Elena for first dose administration.

The second round of the mass vaccination will be held on Dec. 15 – 17 for second doses and booster shots.

Meanwhile, Teodoro also said that Marikina is also accepting vaccinees from other cities as over 425,000 city residents have been fully vaccinated out of the 488,000 total population of Marikina.
