Carlos orders probe into killing of local bet in Pampanga

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has ordered a thorough investigation into the death of a town councilor candidate in San Simon, Pampanga, on Saturday, Nov. 27.

The victim was identified as Rogelio Salvador Jr., 42, candidate for councilor; and his companion, Joel Salvador. Both died as a result of the attack. Their driver Arnel Caparas, survived the attack but was wounded.

“So far, it is premature to say that this is election-related even if the victim is a local candidate for the 2022 elections. We need to establish the facts first, but we don’t discount politics as a possible motive,” said Carlos.

Based on the witness’ account, the victims were on board their vehicle headed to Barangay San Jose in San Simon town when a car from the opposite lane opened fire to the victims' vehicle.

Aside from his political affiliation, police investigators are now digging into the victim’s background.

“Expect that there will be the signing of Peace covenant in the coming months to seal the commitment of every candidate-driven towards a fair and honest election,” Carlos said.
