UK donates 288K more AstraZeneca jabs to PH


The second batch of AstraZeneca coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine donated by the United Kingdom (UK) to the country arrived on Friday afternoon, Nov. 26.

The shipment containing 288,000 doses of AstraZeneca landed on Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 aboard Emirates Airlines flight EK 332 around 4 p.m.

The vaccine donations by UK were coursed through the global vaccine initiative COVAX facility.

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. previously announced that UK will provide 5,225,200 doses of AstraZeneca to the Philippines for free.

The first batch consisting of 3,191,040 doses arrived on Thursday night. Meanwhile, the third and last batch comprised of 1,746,160 doses is expected to be delivered on Saturday.

The vaccine supply now reached 139,658,840 doses of which 79,602,980 doses were administered as of Thursday while 60,055,860 have been stored in government warehouses.

A total of 44,502,112 individuals have received their first dose.

Meanwhile, 34,963,067 people have already been fully vaccinated, representing 45.32 percent of the 77 million eligible population that the government intends to inoculate by year-end to achieve herd immunity.
