Filipinos urged to join national vax days vs COVID-19

The Caritas Philippines urged the public to support the government’s three-day national vaccination program, saying this will help in curbing the negative effects brought about by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has been supportive of the different measures against COVID-19 being implemented by the national government, said Caritas Philippines head Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo.

"Since January, the CBCP supported the call of the government for a whole-of-society approach to curb the effects of the global pandemic in our country – getting vaccination has been one of our strongest appeals," said Bagaforo in a statement on Friday, Nov. 26.

Caritas Philippines will continue collaborating with the health authorities and the private sector to increase the vaccination turn-out in the country, said Caritas Philippines Executive Secretary Fr. Tony Labiao.

“Aside from opening our facilities as vaccination areas, the church volunteers and other resources were offered to the Department of Health and the local government units in full support of the program. We will continue to do so until all is done with our vaccination program,” he said.

The national COVID-19 vaccination program is set from Nov. 29 to Dec. 1.

National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 Chief Implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said they are expecting to vaccinate at least 15 million Filipinos during the three-day run.
