Lakas-CMD adopts Bongbong Marcos as its presidential candidate in 2022


The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) party on Wednesday, Nov. 24 adopted a resolution declaring former Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. as its adopted candidate for president in the 2022 national elections.

The party’s Executive Committee (Execom) also confirmed in another resolution that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, party chairperson, is its vice presidential candidate.

The Lakas-CMD resolutions made the Marcos-Duterte Uniteam its official candidates for the country’s top posts in the 2022 elections.

The party Execom also passed a resolution authorizing its president, House Majority Leader and Leyte 1st District Rep. Martin G. Romualdez to enter into alliance agreements with other political parties.

Expected to be high on the list are the Hugpong ng Pagbabago that Mayor Duterte heads and the Partido Federal ng PIlipinas of Marcos.

Lakas-CMD Deputy Secretary General and Zamboanga Sibugay Rep. Wilter “Sharky” Wee Palma II read and moved for the adoption of three resolutions during the Execom meeting presided by Romualdez and attended by Duterte.

The three resolutions were signed by Duterte, Lakas-CMD co-chairperson and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr., Romualdez, and other Execom members.

“Resolved as it is hereby resolved, that Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte shall be the official candidate and standard bearer of Lakas-CMD for vice president in the 09 May 22 national and local elections,” party Resolution No. 09 series of 2021 read.

The decision to adopt Marcos as the presidential candidate of Lakas-CMD is contained in Resolution No. 10, Series of 2021.

The Lakas-CMD pointed out that national unity is very important to propel the country to economic recovery following the continued devastations of the coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic.

It noted that the authority to choose her presidential running mate was granted to Mayor Duterte.

The Lakas-CMD also adopted Resolution No. 11, Series of 2021 allowing Romualdez to forge an alliance with other political parties in preparation for next year’s national elections.

It underscored the importance of building alliances with different political groups to strengthen the party’s political resources and assets aimed at enhancing the winning chances of Lakas-CMD candidates.
