Alternative learning system for SHS launched in Pasig

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) program was launched in Pasig City, Mayor Vico Sotto announced on Wednesday, Nov. 24.

ALS, according to the Department of Education (DepED), is a system of parallel learning which provides non-formal education and practical skills as an alternative to those who do not have access to formal education or those who have not finished their formal education.

The DepED, Pasig Schools District Office (SDO), and the Buting Senior High School collaborated to launch the system.

A total of 81 students are beneficiaries of the Pasig ALS program.

The first ALS program in the country was launched in Albay by DepED Region V in 2019.

Some competencies covered by the ALS include "preparation for employment, entrepreneurship, middle-level skills, and tertiary education," according to DepED.
