Select officers of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) have completed rigorous training and seminar on counter-terrorism and anti-human trafficking.
BI Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said some frontliners attended the five-day seminar on the methods of detecting entry of foreign terrorists using the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS).
APIS is an electronic data exchange system that allows the BI to receive advance information about arriving passengers.
The seminar was sponsored by the UN office on counter terrorism, drugs and crimes.
The BI chief also said that a select group of immigration officers also joined their counterparts from other ASEAN states in attending a seminar identifying potential victims of trafficking at ports of entry and exit.
"We must be always vigilant in guarding our borders as terrorists and human traffickers continue their illicit activities despite the pandemic," Morente said.
