QC gov't to expand scholarship programs for athletes, vocational course students

The local government of Quezon City will expand its scholarship programs for athletes, artists, and vocational course students.

“Karapatan ng bawat kabataan ang de-kalidad na edukasyon kaya’t hindi tayo nag-atubiling palawakin pa ang kasalukuyang scholarship program ng lungsod para mas marami pang mag-aaral ang makatanggap nito (Every youth has the right to quality education so we did not hesitate to expand the city's current scholarship program so that more students can receive it),” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The two new scholarship categories will be added to the current scholarship brackets for senior high school, tertiary students (those under academic, youth leaders, economic, and specialized courses), and post-graduate students.

The city is finalizing suitable courses for athletic and arts scholars.

The Youth Development Office (YDO) is also establishing the guidelines for vocational scholars. Students who qualify for athletics and arts scholarships can receive a P10,000 tuition grant with a P4,000 stipend per year, while those who will take up vocational courses can get a P6,000 tuition stipend from the local government.

The city also increased the tuition subsidy and stipend for each scholarship program for School Year 2021 to 2022. Masters/ Doctorate student scholars will also receive a P30,000 thesis grant.

“On November 22, we will start accepting applications for our scholarship program. Kailangan mag-register muna sila sa QCitizen ID at ipasa iyon kasama ng iba pang requirements sa provided link. Sa mga susunod na buwan, maisasama na ito sa ating e-services upang maging angkop sa new normal at para maging mas mabilis din ang pagpo-proseso ng mga dokumento dahil online na (On November 22, we will start accepting applications for our scholarship program. They must first register with the QCitizen ID and submit that along with the other requirements in the provided link. In the coming months, it will be integrated into our e-services to suit the new normal and also to make the processing of documents faster because it is online),” QCYDO OIC Lyn Dividina said.

Scholars should be Quezon City residents; enrolled, registered, and accepted at a recognized educational institution; and should meet all the requirements and qualifications needed for the program being applied for.
