PNP's anti-narcotics unit given free hand to probe PRRD's blind item on bet using cocaine

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has given its Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) a free hand in the conduct of the verification on President Duterte’s blind item about a presidential aspirant allegedly using cocaine.

But he said the PDEG, under Police Brig. Remus Medina, could coordinate with the PNP’s Intelligence Group and even other government agencies to check on the veracity of Duterte’s claim.

“He (Medina) can confer with the IG if they need intelligence information, he can approach the other agencies and he can approach Malacanang to be able to the information,” said Carlos.

Carlos emphasized said that since the information came from their Commander-In-Chief, the information has to be checked for validation.

“He is our Commander-In-Chief, we will take the appropriate steps because we are under the Commander-In-Chief. There are ways to get the information or we have to confer with other information that may come out in the conduct of the investigation,” said Carlos.

Last week, Duterte disclosed that a presidential aspirant has no accomplishment to brag on and was even into using cocaine. He did not name the presidential aspirant.

One of the agencies that the PNP could coordinate with in the conduct of the investigation, according to Carlos, is the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

“We have the effort to check, then effort to get the true name and conduct the validation. And if the validation and evidence would warrant and effort to stop the use of

illegal drugs then we will conduct that,” said Carlos.
