Minors vaccinated in Muntinlupa rise to 17,700


The Muntinlupa City government has vaccinated nearly 18,000 minors aged 12 to 17 years old in nearly a month.

As of Nov. 21, according to the Muntinlupa COVID-19 Vaccination Program (MunCoVac), a total of 17,773 minors have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The total is equivalent to 32 percent of Muntinlupa’s estimated total population of 55,391 minors belonging to the 12-17 age group. In addition, 547 minors have received the second dose, making them fully vaccinated.

In total, the city government has already administered 18,320 vaccine jabs to minors since it started inoculating the pediatric population on Oct. 25.

As of Nov. 21, there are 33,662 minors who have registered with MunCoVac for vaccination, or 61 percent of the total population for the age group.

Of the total, 2,449 minors (7.3 percent) have comorbidities or are classified as Pediatric A3, while 31,213 (92.7 percent) are classified as “well children.”

Minors with comorbidities are vaccinated only at the city-run Ospital ng Muntinlupa. For those without, they are vaccinated at SM Center Muntinlupa, Ayala Malls South Park, New Cupang Health Center and Sucat covered court.

Based on the Department of Health guidelines, the comorbidities eligible for the Pediatric A3 vaccination are medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic/endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV infection, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory diseases, renal disorders, hepatobiliary diseases and immunocompromised state due to disease or treatment.

The Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for use in people 12 years and above.

As of Nov. 21, Muntinlupa has 70 active COVID-19 cases out of 27,585 confirmed cases, 26,937 recoveries and 578 deaths.
