Iloilo also prioritizes college students for COVID-19 vaccinations

ILOILO CITY — In preparation for the expansion of limited face-to-face classes for college level, the Iloilo provincial government is also prioritizing students of state universities and colleges (SUCs) for vaccination against COVID-19.

“We are vaccinating in preparation for that,” said Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr.

This was after the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) against COVID-19 recently approved the proposal of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to reopen classes at areas below Alert Level 3.

A vaccination team from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office started Monday, November 22, the vaccination of selected college students at the West Visayas State University (WVSU) in Iloilo City.

Dr. Joselito Villaruz, WVSU president, said that this will bring more opportunities to add limited face-to-face classes by January 2022. The university has previously resumed face-to-face classes for medical courses.

The November 22 vaccination will be followed by the ones at the main campus of Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) in Estancia town on November 23 and the WVSU campus in Pototan town on November 24.

The other campuses of the Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) and Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) are also part of the proposal for the on-site vaccinations.
