Emerald Avenue for pedestrians only as part of car-free Sunday
In an effort to reduce carbon footprint and to provide the public with a space to enjoy recreational activities outdoors, Barangay San Antonio (BSA) in Pasig launched a “car-free Sunday” initiative.
Emerald Avenue in Pasig city is now exclusive to pedestrians on Sundays as part of BSA’s “car-free Sunday” starting Sunday, Nov. 21.
The initiative by BSA Chairman Raymond Lising in collaboration with the Pasig city government essentially turned the 500-metre long Emerald Avenue into an outdoor recreational area.
Physical activities such as jogging, cycling, zumba, etc. and the use of light personal mobility devices are permitted.
There is also a weekend market available for visitors.
As part of car-free Sunday, the street will be closed to vehicular traffic and will be for the exclusive use of pedestrians and will take place every Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
This initiative was made to promote “open public spaces” in Pasig that residents can access for free.
Meanwhile, BSA has deployed safety officers to ensure that health protocols pursuant to Alert Level 2 are being followed.
