The Chery Tiggo Crossovers edged the California Precision Sports, 25-22, 27-25, 25-23, to take their second win in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League (PNVF) Monday, Nov. 22 at the Aquamarine Recreational Center.
Dominating the match from the get-go, the Crossovers found themselves in pinch at the beginning of the third set but erased an 8-1 deficit en route to a comeback thanks to the combined efforts of Mylene Paat and Dindin Santiago-Manabat.
Tied at 23-all in the third canto, Mary Joy Docoron and Paat scored back-to-back points to seal the deal in favor of Chery Tiggo, which improved to a 2-1 record.
Paat led with 17 points, Santiago-Manabat fired seven points, and Justine Dorog rose to the occasion with seven kills for Chery Tiggo.
“Justine Dorog really played very well. I thanked her, given her skills it’s a given,” said Crossovers coach Aaron Velez. “She has the determination to lead the team and set an example. More than the points, it’s the heart and leadership of Justine that I would want to praise."
Chery Tiggo, the reigning PVL Open conference champion, was pushed to its limits in the extended second set as the California skippers put up a fight.
Mary Joy Docoron hit a solid kill for the match point before the joined forces of her and Nabor stopped Jenalyn Umayam's well-set attack.
In the first set, it was also Paat who delivered the finishing blow to gain momentum for the Crossovers heading into the second set.
Casiey Dongallo, meanwhile, paced California with 23 points while Jelai Gajero tallied 14 points to go with 13 digs.
The Precision Sports, for their part, remained winless in three games.
