Passenger hurt after stone-throwing at MRT train, scavenger arrested


Authorities have arrested the person responsible for stone-throwing incident on Sunday, Nov. 21, in one of the trains of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 which inflicted injury on a 51-year old male passenger.

"Based on an initial report, a scavenger who reportedly threw the stone was later apprehended in a construction site near a hotel along Taft Avenue," the MRT-3 Management said in a statement.

"The MRT-3 Management assures the public that appropriate legal charges will be filed against those involved in the incident. Necessary steps will also be taken to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future," the statement added.

Department of Transportation Secretary Art Tugade could not hold back his anger as a result of the incident when he posted what happened in his Facebook account.

The MRT-3 train was on its way to its next stop at the Magallanes Station at 6:51 a.m. Sunday when stone struck a window of the third car of the MRT-3 train.

It damaged the window and eventually hit one of the passengers.

"The passenger was immediately attended to and was given first aid at the Magallanes Station. He was later brought to the San Juan De Dios Hospital at Pasay for further medical attention," the MRT-3 Management statement read.
