The Department of Science and Technology-National Capital Region (DOST-NCR) and the Philippine National Police-National Capital Regional Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) have joined forces to provide support to marginalized communities in Metro Manila.
The DOST-NCR and PNP-NCRPO inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the PNP-NCRPO to work together for the implementation of the NCRPO’s Simula ng Isang Bagong Oportunidad sa Lipunan (SIBOL) and DOST- NCR’s Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology (CEST) programs.
“Under this partnership, the DOST NCR will introduce and infuse science, technology, and innovation-based solutions to the communities adopted by the NCRPO SIBOL,” DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Peña said during his weekly report on Friday, Nov. 19.
“The NCRPO’s SIBOL Program will focus on project areas such as community organizing, skills development training, livelihood assistance, job and employment opportunities, basic services, youth development and educational assistance, health and medical assistance, and barangay caravan.”
The MOU was signed by DOST-NCR Regional Director Jose B. Patalinjug III, and PNP-NCRPO Regional Director Police Major General Vicente D. Danao Jr.
De la Peña said the DOST-NCR and PNP-NCRPO are expected to convene with the community leaders assisted through SIBOL.
“Through the five pillars and eight focus project areas of the CEST and SIBOL Programs, respectively, the DOST-NCR and NCRPO seek to address the needs of communities in Metro Manila particularly through programs and projects focusing on livelihood enterprise, education, health, and disaster preparedness,” the DOST-NCR said.
