Bert de Leon, veteran television director, passes away

Seen as one of today’s legends in the local entertainment industry, veteran television director Bert de Leon, sadly, passed away.

Described by his colleagues as someone who was easy to work with, Bert was best known for being the former director of GMA’s long-running gag show “Bubble Gang,” comedy series “Pepito Manaloto,” noontime variety show “Eat Bulaga,” and the ’90s classic TV series “ Okay ka, Fairy ko.” Apart from sitting on the director’s chair, he was also known as a musician and music producer.

Early in October, comedian Michael V. held a fundraising event that benefited the director, who, unfortunately, contracted COVID-19. Prior to that, in July, he was taken to the hospital due to various medical concerns.

Friends and fellow creatives express their love for the esteemed director online:

Rest in peace, Direk Bert.
