PL groups denied accreditation may still appeal to SC, says poll official

Party-list groups denied accreditation by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) may still go to the Supreme Court (SC) to appeal their cases, a poll official said.

"They still have a remedy, file an injunction before the SC," Comelec - Education and Information Department (EID) Assistant Director Elaiza David said in a radio interview.

"If there's a temporary restraining order from the SC, their names can be retained in the official ballots," she added.

According to the poll official, 180 PL groups were denied accreditation.

David said 126 filed motions for reconsideration (MR) before the Comelec en banc but were also denied.

Under the Party-List System Law, any organized group of persons may register with the Comelec as a party, organization, or coalition for purposes of the party-list system.
