LPA off Catanduanes to affect Bicol, Samar areas - PAGASA

The low pressure area (LPA) off Catanduanes is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the eastern section of the country, the state weather bureau said Thursday, Nov. 18.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the LPA was last spotted 345 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes

The weather disturbance is embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), which is prevailing over Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, said weather specialist Raymond Ordinario.

“Dahil sa nasabing low pressure area, inaasahan natin ang maulap na papawirin na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pag-kulog sa Bicol at Samar provinces (Due to the said low pressure area, we expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Bicol and Samar Provinces),” Ordinario said.

“Ito namang Intertropical Convergence Zone ay magdudulot ng makulimlim na panahon na may kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at pag-kulog diyan sa may Palawan (This Intertropical Convergence Zone will bring cloudy weather conditions with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan),” he added.

The agency said the LPA is less likely to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.

It added that no weather disturbance is expected to form within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) in the next two to three days.

Based on the 4 p.m. weather bulletin, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains may be experienced over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan” affecting northern and Central Luzon.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas, meanwhile, may have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the ITCZ. (Charie Mae F. Abarca)
