DAVAO CITY – A murder case has already been filed against one of the suspects in the killing of journalist Orlando “Dondon” Dinoy.

Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) Dinoy spokesperson Lt Col Alan Verginiza told The Manila Bulletin over the phone that the case was filed against Brandie Mercado Campaner alias “Bos-Bos” at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office in Davao del Sur under NPS Docket Number XI-04-INV-21K-00299 on Monday.

Verginiza, who is also the Chief Provincial Community Affairs Development Unit of Davao del Sur L, said Campaner is still at large.

Campaner was identified as the gunman who shot and killed Dinoy last October 30.

Dinoy was shot several times in his apartment located at Mother Ignacia St., Poblacion Uno, Bansalan, Davao del Sur.

He was a reporter for online news platform Newsline Philippines and an anchor of Energy News FM in Digos City.

The other suspect who was the driver of the motorcycle during the attack against Dinoy is yet to be identified.

Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) Executive Director Usec. Joel Sy Egco said “the Task Force is officially declaring the Dinoy murder case as not related to his work as a journalist.”

“While the case is deemed non-work related, we will continue to monitor and work double time to catch his killers and whoever may be behind them. There is no justification for murder,” Egco added.

Egco also commended the Philippine National Police specially the SITG Dinoy for resolving the case.
