Medical frontliners in San Juan City get booster shots vs. COVID-19

The San Juan City local government started on Wednesday, Nov. 17, the administration of COVID-19 booster shots on its healthcare workers amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the threat of its more contagious Delta variant.

The Department of Health (DOH) and the Inter-Agency Task Force - National Task Force (IATF-NTF) had earlier approved the rollout of booster shots to fully vaccinated healthcare workers.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora, together with other city government officials, led the inoculation program at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Zamora said around 1,200 healthcare workers are qualified for the booster shots in San Juan City.

“We are happy that the DOH and IATF approved the administration of booster shots to our medical frontliners. We really need to take care of them since they are exposed to the virus on a daily basis. They really need the added protection,” Zamora said.

Meanwhile, the LGU also started its pediatric vaccination for non-residents after it has completed vaccinating its eligible 12-17 year old residents living and studying in San Juan who registered in the program.

After the successful initial run of COVID-19 vaccinations for minors aged 12 to 17 with comorbidities, the San Juan City local government has started the inoculation of the rest of its pediatric residents on Nov. 3.

Vaccine recipients who have comorbidities and those who are fit and healthy to receive the jab will receive Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, the only vaccines that were able to get an Emergency Use Authorizarion (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration.
