‘Harry Potter’ cast to go back to Hogwarts for one retrospective 20th anniversary special

The magic continues

Hey, Potterheads! It’s time to review your history of magic as our favorite Gryffindor trio is coming back to relive the magic of “Harry Potter” films.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” on Nov. 16, 2001, HBO Max released the first teaser of “Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts.” According to the streaming platform, "the retrospective special will tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time."

Stars Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Daniel Radcliffe, the actors behind the Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and Harry Potter, respectively, will be joined by fellow “Harry Potter” alumni such as Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, Tom Felton, James and Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, director Chris Columbus, and more.

“It has been an incredible journey since the debut of the ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least,” Tom Ascheim, president of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults, and Classics, said in a statement. “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon—from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”

Since 2001, the movie franchise has produced eight films centering on the J.K. Rowling novel series. While the journey of Harry, dubbed “the boy who lived,” on the screen has ended in 2011, the fantasy of The Wizarding World continued with the release of the two-part play “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” (2016) and the prequel movies “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” (2016) and “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald” (2018). The third film of the “Fantastic Beasts” series, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” is scheduled to premiere in April 2022.

“Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts” will be available for streaming on HBO Max on Jan. 1, 2022.
