Las Piñas LGU launches blindness prevention program

The Las Piñas City government launched the blindness prevention program on Nov. 15, offering free cataract surgery for residents who are “green card” holders.

Dr. Jeffrey Evaristo Junio, city program manager of blindness prevention drive, said the first cause of preventable blindness is cataract.

Junio said residents with green cards and wanted to undergo surgery for cataract must visit their nearest barangay health center for screening and proper information.

Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the free surgery for cataract was initiated by her late husband, former chief executive Vergel Aguilar, in 2001 at the Las Pinas Lying-in Clinic.

Aguilar also urged the city residents to avail of the “green card”, a hospitalization support of the city government that can be used when a patient needs to be confined.

She also said the green card offers P30,000 for hospitalization.

The city partnered with private hospitals to give the residents quality health services.
