Gaballo cherishes chance to face idol Donaire

Filipino boxer Reymart Gaballo is out to make the most of his chances when he takes on WBC bantamweight champion and compatriot Nonito Donaire on Dec. 11 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson California.

"Hindi po lahat ng boxers nabibigyan ng pagkakataon na makalaban 'yong iniidolo nila sa ring. Masaya excited na makalaban 'yong idol ko sa ring na world title (Not all boxers are given the chance to face their idols in the ring that's why I'm happy and excited especially that it's a world title match)," said Gaballo in the latest episode of former PBA commissioner Noli Eala's Power and Program Play.

As an athlete and a boxer, Gaballo understood the situation he's in when he faces Donaire in the ring.

It will be an all-Filipino clash against an undefeated youngster in Gaballo, who holds a 24-0 record on top of 20 knockouts, and a four-division world boxing champion in Donaire, who has a 41-6 card with 27 KOs.

Gaballo, 25, is also 13 years old younger than Donaire, 38, with the latter's WBC belt on the line.

And if there's one factor that Gaballo will look out for, that would be Donaire's hefty left hooks.

"Magandang laban po ang maipapalabas ko po para sa kanila (fans). Gagawin ko rin po lahat ng makakaya ko para manalo sa laban (I will do my best to show boxing fans a great fight and to win)," said the interim WBC bantamweight champion.

"Nakadepende na po sa labas pero para sa akin ay gagawin ko po talaga 'yong best ko sa fight and alam ko rin naman po na 'yong idol natin si Nonito, gagawin niya rin 'yong best niya para manalo sa laban (It depends on the fight but I will just do my best. I'm sure that my idol Nonito will also do his best for the match)."

Gaballo last saw action in December 2020 and scored a split decision win against Puerto Rican foe Emmanuel Rodriguez while Donaire knocked out Frenchman Nordine Oubaali to capture the WBC bantamweight title last May.
