Bureau of Immigration Commissioner (BI) Jaime Morente praised Pasig policemen for arresting a fake recruiter of overseas Filipino workers in Barangay San Joaquin, Pasig.
The suspect who was not mentioned in the BI press statement enticed a a woman to give him P300,000 as placement fee for a job in Africa.
The illegal recruiter gave the woman a fake travel papers on the day of her supposed flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
“We encourage people to report these illegal recruiters and human traffickers, who prey on the vulnerabilities of aspiring OFWs. Let them face the harshest penalties of the law and rot in jail,” Morente said.
Early this month, the BI reported intercepting almost 500 trafficking and illegal recruitment victims that attempted to depart during the first nine months of the year.
The BI also said that more than 8,400 other passengers were disallowed from boarding their flights for the same period due to incomplete travel documents.
