Marcos gets support of son of late Manila Mayor Mel Lopez

Presidential aspirant and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., has received the support of the son of the late Manila Mayor Gemiliano "Mel" Lopez, Jr.

Alex Lopez, the eldest son of the former Manila mayor, said he is endorsing the candidacy of Marcos due to his credentials and integrity as a leader who can unify the country.

“Dahil nakikita ko ang Pilipinas ay panahon na para ibalik natin ang sigla at vision ng pag-asenso. Ang pag-ahon ng Pilipinas ay nasa kay Bongbong (I see that it is time for the Philippines to bring back its vitality and vision of progress. The rise of the Philippines is in Bongbong),” said Lopez, a lawyer by profession and the official mayoralty candidate of the PFP in Manila.

Lopez, who took his oath as party member on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the BBM Headquarters in Mandaluyong City, will formally file his certificate of candidacy on Friday, November 12, under the Comelec 'rules of substitution' from Manila Mayor candidate Calvin Punzalan.

“This is to bury the ghost of the past for progress and reconciliation. Nakikita ko ang pagbabago kay (I've seen the change in) BBM. He has the vision. He has the training. He has the dedication and BBM has a very good heart and he has the vision for a better Philippines,” added Lopez, who vowed to deliver the majority votes in Manila to the former lawmaker in the 2022 May national elections.

Lopez added that whatever past mistakes done can now be corrected because of Marcos’ kindness of spirit and love of country.

“He’s seeing the mistakes of the past and with all of these, I think it can bring a bright future to the country,” said Lopez, whose voting bloc in the capital city supported the candidacy of Marcos for vice-president during the 2016 national elections. (Melvin Sarangay)
