Fire hits Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City

A fire broke out at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City on Wednesday (Nov. 10).

Cuneta Astrodome was being used as one of the vaccination sites for COVID-19.

The Pasay City Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) said the fire started at about 8:18 a.m. and was placed under control at about 10:32 a.m.

The BFP as of press time is still investigating the cause of the fire.

Dr. Grace Noble, Pasay City Health Office (CHO) vaccine coordinator said about 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine were immediately removed from the site when the fire started.

Noble said 500 minors 12 to 17 years old under the general pediatric population were set to receive their jab.

She said coordination was immediately made with the city government’s Giga vaccination site located at The Galleon in SM Mall of Asia for the immediate transfer of the vaccines.

The vaccine coordinator said when the fire broke out, only nurses and doctors were present and were preparing for the vaccination of the general pediatric population.

Noble said no minors were present during the incident.

She said the minors scheduled to get their jab at the Cuneta Astrodome will temporarily be transferred to The Galleon in SM MOA.

The vaccine coordinator said they could not determine if they can still continue to conduct vaccination at the Cuneta Astrodome as they are still waiting for the final report and recommendation from the BFP.
