Davao City LGU terminates information officer

DAVAO CITY - Davao City Information Officer Jefry Tupas was terminated from work after getting involved in the recent drug raid in Mabini, Davao de Oro, a statement from the Office of the City Mayor said on Tuesday, Nov. 9.

"Last Sunday, Jefry signified resignation and on the same moment was informed that she is terminated from work with the City Government of Davao," the statement from the City Mayor's Office said.

"The details of the raid are known only to the PDEA officers in Davao de Oro and Ms. Tupas," it added.

On Monday night, Nov. 8, Tupas said she was among the guests in the party but left "after dinner."

“I was there because like the other guests, I was invited. But I left right after dinner with my boyfriend and another friend,” Tupas said in a statement.

The joint-operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Davao Region (PDEA-Davao) with National Bureau of Investigation–Southern Mindanao Region (NBI-SEMRO), and Mabini Municipal Police Station last Saturday evening confiscated more or less P1.5 million worth of suspected party drugs, shabu, and marijuana from the 17 suspects.

The subject of the drug bust was identified as Revsan Ethelbert Papay Elizalde, 33, of Catalunan Pequeño in Davao City who was nabbed at 9:15 p.m.

The PDEA said Elizalde was arrested for selling a plastic sachet containing a violet capsule believed to be a party drug worth P2,000 and one large vacuum sealed transparent plastic cellophane with a suspected Cannabis Sativa or marijuana worth P6,000 to a PDEA agent who acted as poseur buyer.
