In an effort to ensure that the pilot run of limited face-to-face classes in low risk areas will be implemented smoothly, officials of the Department of Education (DepEd) visited a public school in Polillo Island on Thursday, Nov. 4.
DepEd Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan and Planning Service Director Roger Masapol, along with officials of DepEd Region IV-A visited the Tamulaya Elementary School which is among the 100 public schools that were chosen for the pilot run to start on Nov. 15.
“It was a quick but very good visit,” Malaluan told the Manila Bulletin after the school visit.

Malaluan and the other officials of DepEd also inspected the facilities which were retrofitted to ensure the safety of the learners, teachers and other personnel, who will participate in the pilot study of limited face-to-face classes in basic education amidst the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The school is ready,” Malaluan said.
He also cited the “strong shared responsibility of key stakeholders” including the local government units (LGUs) and its executives. Malaluan said that Mayor Cristina Bosque of Polillo Island was also present during the inspection to help ensure that the students and teachers will remain safe during the pilot run.
As per the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) issued by DepEd and the Department of Health (DOH), teachers in Tamulaya ES were already vaccinated. The school has seven teachers from Kinder to Grade 6 and one Head Teacher.
“Teachers ready and excited to physically welcome children back to school,” Malaluan said.
Likewise, Malaluan also cited the “strong internalization” of DepEd-DOH JMC in Tamulaya ES. The said JMC outlined the guidelines that schools participating in the pilot run should comply with.
During the inspection, DepEd officials ensured that the safety protocols required such as social distancing and availability of sanitation or wash areas for students and teachers are met.
DepEd said that a total of 49 learners will join the pilot limited face-to-face classes.
The students will not be attending face-to-face classes everyday. Instead, they will follow a schedule and will still be learning their lessons under the blended learning set-up implemented by DepEd for School Year (SY) 2021-2022.
