3,287 students receive educational assistance from Siquijor government

The provincial government of Siquijor led by Vice Governor Mei Ling Quezon and Siquijor lone district Rep. Jake Vincent Villa has launched its educational assistance program to 3,287 students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Villa and Quezon led the educational assistance program together with representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

"Through our educational assistance program, we hope to help students from elementary and high school with additional means to get what they need for their education," Villa said.

Villa said the families of elementary school students got P1,000 while families of high school students received P2,000.

The amount is for the students' educational needs like school supplies, books, and internet load.

According to Villa, a total of P13.374 million was allocated for 9,043 students who are the first batch of the program.

"We in the provincial government believe that we need to protect the health of our learners and our educators. But apart from that, we also need to find ways to ensure that learning continues and students in Siquijor receive quality education amid the Covid-19 pandemic," Villa said.

He also thanked the DSWD and other stakeholders for helping the provincial government implement the said program.

"It has been a tough period for our educational system but the provincial government of Siquijor remains committed to working with different stakeholders to promote programs that will uphold every child’s right to education," the incumbent Siquijor solon added. (Melvin Sarangay)
