Student dies trying to save laptop from burning house in Quezon City


A graduating student died while three others were injured in a fire that gutted a house in Barangay San Agustin, Novaliches, Quezon City, on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) identified the fatality as Melanie Trinidad, 21.

The victim’s grandmother and two more relatives of the victim sustained second degree burns and were immediately given medical attention

According to a report from DZRH, Luzviminda Trinidad, 47, the victim's grandmother, claimed that Melanie was trapped after she rushed inside the burning house to retrieve a laptop she used for studying.

The fire reached the 1st alarm at around 2:05 a.m. and was declared under control at 2:37 am.

Senior Inspector Rowena Mamangun of the Quezon City Fire Department said that the blaze was extinguished at 3:06 a.m.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire that allegedly started from the ceiling of the house.

Damage to property was pegged at more or less P750,000, according to the fire department.
