Over 500 new Delta variant cases recorded---DOH

The Philippines has recorded more than 500 new Delta coronavirus variant cases, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

The DOH said they were able to detect 520 new Delta variant cases out of the 748 positive samples that recently underwent genome sequencing.

“ 69.52 percent were positive from Delta variant (B.1.617.2; Indian lineage),” the DOH said.

The total number of Delta variant cases detected in the country stood at 5,331.

There were already 16,589 positive samples that were already subjected to genome sequencing.

"The Delta variant (B.1.617.2; Indian lineage) is the most common lineage (32.14 percent) nationally among sequenced samples," said the DOH.

Also, 83 additional cases of the Beta variant and 64 more cases of Alpha variant were detected, the DOH said.

The total Beta variant cases in the country was at 3,562. The tally of Alpha variant cases, meanwhile, jumped to 3,106.
