After the controversy involving his former girlfriend, Korean actor and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” star Kim Seon-ho has been confirmed to make his film debut in a movie about a Kopino (Korean-Filipino) boy.

Film investment and distribution company Next Entertainment World (NEW) made the final decision to cast Kim Seon-ho in the film “Sad Tropics.”

Controversy erupted on Oct. 17 when Kim Seon-ho’s former girlfriend posted online accusing “popular actor ‘K,’” who turned out to be Kim Seon-ho, of forcing her to abort their baby in July 2020.

After Kim Seon-ho issued an apology on Oct. 20, Korean media outlet Dispatch published a report quoting the star and the woman’s acquaintances and friends and belying the former girlfriend’s accusations.

Kim Seon-ho was removed from the TV show “2 Days & 1 Night” and was dropped from two films. However, NEW decided to cast in the film which was his project before the scandal.

"After much consideration, the production team of 'Sad Tropics' has decided to start filming with Kim Seon-ho within the year," said NEW.

“Sad Tropics” is about a Kopino boy, who has a Korean father and a Filipino mother, who dreams of becoming a boxer. He goes to Korea to find his father who abandoned him. “Kopino” is a term referring to a person who has Korean and Filipino parents.

South Korea is the No. 1 source of tourists for the Philippines. Many Kopinos in the Philippines have been abandoned by their Korean fathers.

Salt Entertainment, Kim Seon-ho’s agency, confirmed that “it is true that actor Kim Seon-ho will appear in 'Sad Tropics.’”

After starring in the Korean drama “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” last month, Kim Seon-ho was supposed to star in three films. “Sad Tropics” will start filming in December, according to Korean media.

"Sad Tropics" will be helmed by Park Hoon-jung whose film directing credits include the Korean films "V.I.P.," "The Witch" and "New World."

Earlier, a producer for “Sad Tropics’ posted on Instagram, "Many people believe in Kim Seon-ho and wait for him so I think there will be good news soon.”

Advertisers, which deleted and hid ads featuring Kim Seon-ho during the height of controversy, have resumed showing his advertisements.
