QC cop nabbed for allegedly extorting money from fruit vendor


A police corporal assigned to the Quezon City Police District was arrested after he was accused of extorting money from a fruit vender as protection from being dismantled.

Brig. Gen. Flynn Dongbo, director of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) identified the suspect as Police Corporal Myrldon Linga Yagi, assigned at the Station 14, Holy Spirit, Quezon City Police District.

He was arrested in an entrapment inside the Barangay Hall Annex along San Simon Street on Tuesday, Oct. 26. Authorities were able to seize the marked money, one unit of Taurus 9mm Pistol with serial number TZE 30683, two pieces of magazine with 16 ammunition, a PNP identification card and cash worth P1,635 from the suspect.

Dongbo said Yagi as caught receiving the marked money worth P2,000 as the supposed payment of a complainant so that his fruit stand, located in Barangay Pasong Tamo, will not be dismantled.

The money was also for him to get back his mobile phone that was forcibly taken by Yagi.

"The complainant reported to them that he was mauled, gun-poked and threatened by the accused policeman," said Dongbo.

Yagi is presently under custody of the PNP-IMEG in Camp Crame while criminal and administrative charges are being readied against him.
