P40-million hazard pay for Iloilo provincial government workers

ILOILO CITY — The provincial government of Iloilo is releasing an estimated P40 million as hazard pay for those who reported to work when COVID-19 cases surged for a two-month period.

In an October 26 executive order, Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. approved the release of hazard pay for an estimated 3,000 provincial government workers.

The releasing of the hazard pay is in line with the administrative order by President Duterte last June that there should be hazard pay for government workers in areas under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) status.

The hazard pay covers regular, contractual and job hire workers who physically reported when the national government placed the province of Iloilo under ECQ last July 16-August 7 and MECQ from May 31-July 15 and August 8-31.

Iloilo Provincial Administrator Suzette Mamon said that each worker is entitled to P300 hazard pay per day.

Mamon added that the workers have to submit necessary documents for the payout, which can start this week.
