Basheirrou rules PCSO Maiden Race

Second choice Basheirrou proved he’s ready for the big time when he topped the 2021 Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office Maiden Race held Sunday at the Santa Ana Park in Naic, Cavite.

This was after Basheirrou turned what was expected to be a tight contest with favorite Enigma Uno into a walk in the park for him.

Enigma Uno set the pace early with the eventual winner well within striking distance and it was clear that the event was going to be a two-horse affair as the rest of the field faded one after the other.

As they reached the backstretch, the Rancho Sta. Rosa-owned and Ruben Tupas-trained chestnut colt responded to the masterful driving of jockey Kelvin Abobo and grabbed the lead.

Basheirrou steadily pulled away from Enigma Uno to prevail with plenty to spare.

The win will likely serve him in good stead when he takes on the challenge of other top two-year-old horses in the coming 2nd leg of the Philracom Juvenile Stakes race, including first leg winner Gomezian and Radio Bell.

The race will be held on on Nov. 7 at the San Lazaro Business and Leisure Park.

His win rewarded the owner the top prize of P600,000 while Enigma Uno’s owner got P200,000. Tinago Falls and Hot Rot Hearts finished third and fourth, respectively.
