Ilonggo lawyers, doctors back Robredo’s presidency

ILOILO CITY – Lawyers and doctors in the city and province of Iloilo have publicly supported the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Roberdo.

“With her decision to run for the highest office, we are renewed with hope that our country can become a better place,” said the manifesto.

“This is a conspiracy for hope that we cannot afford to squander. For our future and the future of our children, we pledge to work together to win this fight,” the manifesto added.

Dubbed as “Pink Iloilo”, the group also consisted of law students, medical students, and those in the allied professions.

For this group of professionals, Robredo is a true “servant leader” who has championed human rights as a lawyer for the indigenous communities and other marginalized sectors as well as her tenure as congresswoman and currently as vice president.

During the 2016 elections, official tally showed that Robredo emerged as the winner for the vice presidential race both in the city and province of Iloilo with 573,729 votes.

At that time, Iloilo was known as a bailiwick of the Liberal Party (LP). Robredo was the running mate of LP’s losing presidential candidate Mar Roxas, whose paternal roots are from the neighboring Capiz province.

Meanwhile, several bike enthusiasts joined the 23-kilometer fun-ride for Robredo and her running mate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in Iloilo City Saturday morning.

Senator Risa Hontiveros was also seen at the assembly area talking to supporters of Robredo and Pangilinan.
