3 to 5 police generals vying for top PNP post -- Año

Three to five police generals will be endorsed by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año to President Duterte as the possible successor of Philippine National Police PNP Chief, Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.

Año said Wednesday, Oct. 20, that the names of the generals vying for the top PNP post will be submitted to the Commander-in-Chief ahead of Eleazar's mandatory retirement on Nov. 13.

“Perhaps, on my part, I will submit three to five names,” Año said in an interview over GMA News.

The DILG Chief said Eleazar's successor was tackled during a Cabinet meeting presided by Duterte on Tuesday night.

Año, however, refused to reveal the police generals that are on his list as the next possible leader of the police force.

He noted that Duterte sought for "enough time" to decide who to appoint as Eleazar’s replacement since there are lots of qualified police officers competing for the post.

“Three to five names para makapagisip mabuti ang ating Pangulo kung sino ang pipiliin niya. Kasi remember, ito na ang kumbaga huling chief PNP na ia-appoint nya sa kanyang term. So kailangan talaga pag-isipang mabuti (There will be three to five names to allow the President to think thoroughly who to pick. Because remember this will be the last chief PNP that he will appoint in his term. So he really needs to think about it),’’ Año added.
