Team Spirit completed its Cinderella run in the main event of The International 10 as it stunned PSG.LGD, 3-2, in the Grand Finals to win the Aegis of Champions and a whopping $18 million prize (P923 million) on Monday, October 18 (Manila Time).
TS climbed its way up in the lower bracket and took down teams like Teams Secret and Invictus Gaming to set up a Grand Finals showdown against a dominant LGD squad. The European team engaged the Chinese giants to a grueling five-game series where Team Spirit outlasted PSG LGD in the deciding fifth match to bring the crown back to the CIS region after 10 years.
Magomed “Collapse” Khalilov and Alexander “TORONTOTOKYO” Khertek put up the games of their lives in the winner-take-all as the two joined hands with their tried- and-tested Magnus-Ember Spirit composition which brought problems to the side of PSG LGD.
Collapse finished with an 8-2-18 performance while TORONTOTOKYO added 7-1-15 KDA all while putting up the pressure on LGD. The perfect gameplay also gifted Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk the space he needed on his Terrorblade to snowball and finish with a 9-1-13 showing and end the series in a lopsided 29-12 triumph.
TS actually had the chance to end the series with a sweep as it shocked LGD in the first two games of the series.
Team Spirit caught PSG.LGD off guard with Yatoro’s Naga Siren carry in Game 1. Yatoro unleashed an impeccable 8-0-3 score line as TS cruised to a swift 18-5 victory to draw first blood in the series.
Collapse on his Magnus set the tone for TS in the 24-8 romp of LGD in Game 2. Collapse unloaded a perfect 2-0-20 KDA while Yatoro on his Luna was untouchable to score a 13-2-7 KDA, allowing Team Spirit to take a commanding 2-0 series lead.
Battling for their tournament lives, the Chinese stepped up in Game 3 with Zhao "XinQ" Zixing’s Rubick to keep Collapse’s Magnus in check. That allowed LGD to gain jungle control with Wang "Ame" Chunyu’s Spectre getting the space to snowball and put-up monster numbers of 15-1-15 KDA.
LGD continued to roll in Game 4, completely dismantling Team Spirit for a one-sided 23-2 win to force the winner-take-all.
PSG LGD still took home P263 million prize for the bridesmaid finish.
