The New Clark City (NCC) Athletics Stadium in Capas, Tarlac has received another nomination from the World Architecture Festival (WAF).
WAF is set to take place at the FIL Exhibition Center in Lisbon, Portugal from Dec. 1 to 3.
The internationally accredited sports stadium is vying for the Engineering Prize of the international festival. WAF already included the stadium in the shortlist of Sport Completed Building last July 27.
Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) President and Chief Executive Officer Vince Dizon lauded MTD Philippines, BCDA's development partners in NCC, and architectural consultant Badji+Royal Architecture+ Design for delivering the world-class sports facility.
“We are pleased to add another feather on our cap with the World Architecture Festival’s Engineering Prize nomination on top of Sport Completed Buildings shortlisting," Dizon said.
"For the New Clark City Athletics Stadium to be recognized at such a high level not only for its architectural brilliance but also for its structural quality is a nod towards the thousands of engineers, designers, and workers who completed this facility within a short period of time,” he added.
The NCC Athletics Stadium is the first major sports hub constructed by the government since the completion of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in 1934.
With a 20,000-seating capacity, a nine-lane 400-meter track and field, and a four-lane warm-up rack, the stadium served as a venue for the 30th Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
