Duterte made the statement as he led the PDP-Laban oath-taking rites for its new members and the proclamation of local candidates at the Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC) in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte on Saturday evening, October 16.

In his speech, the President welcomed the new party members but apologized in advance if he will not be able to attend all of their meetings.

"To our new members: I offer my warmest welcome! To the Party’s chosen local candidates for the 2022 Elections: Congratulations! Rest assured that the Party will fully support you in your candidacy," he said.

"Let me --- allow me to go into --- mag-segue lang (to segue). I may not really be able to attend all your political meetings but I have committed to campaign for PDP candidates all over the country," he added.

He even reiterated his joke that he will "give you (candidates) one sack of money to make sure that you will win."

Despite this jest, the President reminded the new members to stand by the party's principles and ensure the integrity of the 2022 elections.

"It is my hope that all of you will stand by the PDP-LABAN's principles and aspirations throughout the campaign period, and on election day, and beyond," he said.

"I urge you to ensure the integrity of the elections for your respective positions, despite the challenges that you may face," he added.

Duterte likewise expressed confidence that the candidates of PDP-LABAN have the competence, integrity, and dedication that the people are looking for in a public servant.

"Keep in mind that your victory will not only be ours but more importantly of the nation. As a political party, we should continue to put the welfare and progress of our country and people on top of our priorities," he said.

"Our mission is and will always be to improve the quality of life of Filipinos. As you run for public office, take this to heart, even after the election period and regardless of the election results," he added.
