4.2-magnitude quake hits Camarines Sur


A 4.2 magnitude quake struck Camarines Sur on Sunday night, Oct. 17, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

According to Phivolcs, the temblor occurred at 6:51 p.m., and its epicenter was plotted 5 kilometers (km) southeast of Canaman town, Camarines Sur.

The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 4 km, state volcanologists said.

Intensity V was felt in Canaman, Camarines Sur; while Intensity IV was observed in Calabanga, Camarines Sur

Instrumental Intensities were also recorded in the following areas:

Intensity V - Sipocot, Camarines Sur

Intensity II - Mercedes, Camarines Norte; Iriga City, Camarines Sur

Intensity I - Daet, Camarines Norte

The agency said damages are expected following the quake, while aftershocks are unlikely to occur.

About an hour earlier, a 3.2 magnitude quake hit 4 km northwest of Canaman town at 5:06 p.m.

Intensity IV was felt in Canaman, Camarines Sur; while Intensity III was monitored in Naga City

Instrumental Intensity IV was also measured in Sipocot, Camarines Sur, Phivolcs said.
