QC re-opens Commonwealth- University Avenue zipper lane

The Quezon City local government on Friday, Oct. 15, announced the re-opening of the Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane.

This is to ease the heavy traffic flow every morning along Commonwealth Avenue towards the The Philippine Coconut Authority (Philcoa) and Elliptical Road.

According to the LGU, the zipper lane will serve as a “by-pass” for motorists who are going to the University of the Philippines (UP), C.P. Garcia Avenue, and Katipunan Avenue, to avoid driving to Philcoa and Elliptical Road.

A dry run was held on Oct. 16-17.

The zipper lane will be open Mondays to Fridays, starting on Monday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 11 a.m.

The LGU said there will be traffic enforcers assigned to guide motorists to the said lane. Road safety signages will be placed as well.

The zipper lane was first opened in January 2021 in response to the traffic congestion along the construction area of the Metro Rail Transit-7(MRT-7).
