In times of troubles, one can count on social media.

By posting their dire situation on social media, eight individuals stranded due to the flooding at the height of typhoon “Maring” were rescued by the military in Brgy, Kabugbugan, Luna, La Union on Tuesday, October 12.

The help came when Jhai Galenzoga of the Office of the President saw the pleading on social media. The Malacañang personnel immediately sent a report to the Northern Luzon Command.

Their appeal was “Kung pwede sana magpadala ng Army rescue sa Luna, La Union may mga nalulunod na walang rescue na dumarating, di kaya ng pulis gawa ng kunti lang sila.”

Upon learning the need to save lives, the Disaster Response Team in La Union under JTF Karagatan quickly proceeded to the area and succeeded in rescuing the stranded individuals.

They were brought to the safer grounds to the delight of their relatives.

Meanwhile, security forces from the JTF Tala and JTF Kaugnay are still assisting in the ongoing evacuation, road clearing operations, and hauling of relief goods to areas ravaged by heavy rains and powerful winds.
