Mayor Sara tests positive for COVID-19

DAVAO CITY – Mayor Sara Duterte has tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement released by the Office of the City Mayor of Davao, Duterte’s swab test result released Saturday evening confirmed that she has contracted the infection.

Duterte, fully immunized against COVID-19 with the two-dose vaccine of Sinopharm, is currently isolating and has mild symptoms.

“She has mild symptoms and is in isolation caring for other family members who need medical attention in Davao City. The family requests for complete privacy at this time and respectfully urge the public to refrain from sending tokens for well wishes,” the statement reads.

The individuals who have come in direct contact with the mayor in the last 14 days are told to self-monitor for symptoms and undergo the reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test five to seven days after their contact with her.

The mayor’s siblings also contracted the infection this year. Davao City’s 1st District representative Paolo Z. Duterte tested positive for COVID-19 last month while Sebastian “Baste” contracted the infection last July.
